Sean M. BurkeSean M. Burke grew up in West Los Angeles and graduated from Loyola High School in 1971. Mr. Burke earned his Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude from the University of Southern California in 1976. He graduated from USC Law School and USC Business School in 1981, with a combined JD/MBA degree. He was awarded highest honors for receiving the top grade in his second-year Torts class.

Mr. Burke has been an attorney for almost 25 years, having passed the bar exam on his first attempt in 1981. He became a trial lawyer in 1985, specializing in the representation of plaintiffs. He holds an AV rating - Very High to Preeminent - from Martindale-Hubbell, a nationally recognized rating firm. He was also named Orange County Trial Lawyer Association's (OCTLA) Medical Malpractice Trial Lawyer of the Year for 2005.

Mr. Burke's work has been published in the Litigation Section Bulletin of the California Bar Association. Additionally, he has been lecturing at attorneys' continuing-education seminars on medical malpractice and other litigation issues for over 10 years.

From 1981 to 1985, Mr. Burke practiced in the area of business law and venture capital. In 1985, he joined a firm in Long Beach, California that eventually became Thielen and Burke. The firm specialized in catastrophic personal injury cases, including medical malpractice, product liability, and personal injury cases. Mr. Burke obtained one of the highest jury verdicts in California in the area of negligent security when he won $1 million for a Marine Corps soldier who was shot in a fast food restaurant. Mr. Burke has obtained more than $40 million for his clients since 1990.

In 1998, Sean Burke's partner, Joseph Thielen, retired from the practice of law, and Mr. Burke formed his own firm, the Law Offices of Sean M. Burke. In 1999, Mr. Burke moved the office to its current location in Newport Beach, California.

The location of the office allows our firm to serve clients from Orange County, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and elsewhere in Southern California. Ms. Higson received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Middlebury College in 1983. Ms. Higson relocated to California and attended Pepperdine University School of Law. She received her Juris Doctor degree in May 1989 and became a member of the State Bar of California the same year.

Ms. Higson practiced as an Attorney at Rushfeldt, Shelley & Drake from 1989 to 1991 focusing on medical malpractice defense representing physicians and hospitals. In 1991, she relocated to San Diego and represented the victims of medical malpractice, catastrophic automobile accidents and product defects. Ms. Higson relocated to South Orange County in 1993. From 1993 to 1999, she was an Attorney at Bonne, Bridges, Mueller, O’Keefe & Nichols, handling a substantial medical malpractice defense case load representing physicians, hospitals and medical groups.

In 1999, Ms. Higson established the Law Office of Heather J. Higson and was entrusted with handling the medical malpractice and elder abuse cases of patients and their loved ones, in addition to personal injury and product defect cases for victims. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Higson and Sean M. Burke associated on a number of medical malpractice and elder abuse cases, and Ms. Higson formally joined Mr. Burke’s law firm in 2006.

Attorney Jason Argos

Jason N. ArgosJason N. Argos was born at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach. In 2000, his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona. He graduated from Mesa Red Mountain High School in 2004 and thereafter followed in his mother’s footsteps and attended The University of Arizona. During his freshman year at Arizona, Mr. Argos walked onto the football team as a Quarterback. In 2008, he graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. Following graduation, he moved back to Southern California and earned his J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego - graduating a semester early. Prior to his 25th birthday, Mr. Argos graduated from law school, passed the California Bar Examination and got engaged to his wife, Erica Argos.

Mr. Argos joins the Law Offices of Sean M. Burke, APC from Sedgwick, LLP, a national trial firm with 300 plus lawyers working on a variety of litigation matters across the country. Prior to working at Sedgwick, Mr. Argos spent his first five years of practice working for an established civil litigation trial firm in Manhattan Beach, where he defended multiple medical malpractice cases and had hands-on case responsibility and direct client contact from pleading stage to trial. He has served as the lead attorney on over 150 depositions, including expert witness depositions. Mr. Argos is skilled at preparing for and administering successful trials and arbitrations for his clients. Before graduating from law school, Mr. Argos was a certified legal intern for the Appeals, Writs and Trials Division of the California State Attorney General’s Office, where he conducted extensive legal research and wrote appellate briefs for the Fourth Appellate District. He also performed five oral arguments in the Fourth District of the California Courts of Appeal. Prior to the Attorney General’s Office, Mr. Argos worked as a legal intern for the Tort Litigation Division of the Office of the County Counsel for San Diego County, where he assisted with compliance, discovery and oral argument preparation for Ninth Circuit hearings. 

Affiliations, Activities and Accomplishments

Mr. Argos has been designated as a Southern California Super Lawyers “Rising Star” for three consecutive years (i.e, 2015-2017). He is admitted to practice before all courts in the State of California. He has also served on the Executive Committee for the Personal Injury section of the Beverly Hills Bar Association for the last four years. At present, Mr. Argos is the Co-Chair of the Executive Committee for the Personal Injury Section.  

Mr. Argos is also a proud member of the following organizations: Consumer Attorneys of California, Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, Orange County Trial Lawyers Association, Beverly Hills Bar Association and the Orange County Bar Association. Currently, Mr. Argos is the Southern California Chair of the Diversity sub-committee for the Consumer Attorneys of California’s Membership committee. 

While in law school, Mr. Argos was on the dean’s list and served as the President of the Moot Court Honor Society. He competed on behalf of his law school in the Cardozo Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition as well as the American College of Trial Lawyers Moot Court Competition.

For the last three years, Mr. Argos has been an active member of the Southern California Golf Association ("SCGA") where he competes in Amateur golf tournaments.
